How has its production, which was originally exclusively centered in the urban space, invaded galleries, bringing with it real popularity for some artists? These are some of the questions that Magda Danysz, a gallery owner and recognized expert on street art, answers with an easily comprehensible and entertaining style in this unique, richly illustrated anthology. Artivism, is becoming a common way of denouncing conflicts, of being a megaphone of the unfairness, demanding more public space or pushing political agendas; in short, to highlight what does not work well. Artivists use art as a weapon of public and social exigency charged with particular doses of shrewdness, inventiveness, imagination, sense of humour and, above all, social impact, either throughout impressive pieces or the most subtle and invisible actions. Navigating through the curiosity, emotion and concern of the new artivists; We walk the paths of a creativity committed to reflection, criticism and the eternal pursuit of social justice.USD$34.95
For fifty years, graffiti and street art have been challenging conventions and stimulating debate around our perceptions of what constitutes art. As the genre enters its sixth decade, this ground-breaking book presents a new interpretation of where street art and graffiti are situated today. Introducing the concept of 'Intermural Art' - art in between the walls - Rafael Schacter presents a genre at a key moment of transition. While many street and graffiti artists are still challenging the orthodoxies of the public sphere, an increasingly large group are reshaping the field by no longer furtively entering the institution, no longer slavishly reproducing exterior works inside, but instead attempting to merge out and in to create a form that articulates graffiti, street and contemporary-art influences. Through forty profiles of the leading proponents of this new approach from around the globe, Rafael Schacter presents a compelling analysis for 'Intermural Art' while also showcasing some of the boldest work being made currently.USD$69.95
In August 2014 the French artist JR received an unprecedented invitation to work in the Ellis Island Immigrant Hospital, a building on the south side of the island that has been abandoned and closed to visitors since 1954. About ten percent of the millions of migrants who passed through Ellis Island, having been deemed not healthy enough to enter the United States, spent some time in the hospital. For Unframed―Ellis Island, documented in The Ghosts of Ellis Island, JR chose about 20 archival photographs of the hospital's patients and staff and wheat-pasted these images around the abandoned building, creating haunting scenes that bring the history of these rooms back to life: a family looking out at the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor, a small boy lying on an empty bed frame, patients staring out of the caged "psychopathic" ward. The work, which is accessible by guided tour, will remain up "until it decides to disappear." Along with images of JR's photographic interventions in the hospital, this publication includes new illustrations by legendary cartoonist Art Spiegelman, who collaborated with JR on illustrated narratives about Ellis Island's immigrants.
JR (born 1983) is best known for his monumental, wheat-pasted street portraiture projects. His ongoing project Unframed involves installing archival images and images from anonymous photographers in new contexts. JR has carried out Unframed projects in Marseille, São Paulo, Vevey, Atlanta, Baden Baden and Washington, DC. In 2014 he worked inside the theater of the NYC Ballet creating a 6,500-square-foot composite image of NYCB dancers depicted nearly life-size that, when seen from above, forms a giant eye. JR won the TED Prize for 2011.
Art Spiegelman (born 1948) is an American cartoonist, editor and comics advocate based in New York City, best known for his graphic novel Maus (1991). His work as coeditor on the comics magazines Arcade and Raw has been influential, and he spent a decade as contributing artist for The New Yorkerwhere he made several high-profile and sometimes controversial covers.

Perhaps the largest exhibition of street art ever attempted, Tour Paris 13 is the culmination of a movement that always strives for new forms of involvement from the viewer. Housed in a now-demolished 1950s-era nine-story apartment block near the Seine, 105 artists of 18 different nationalities created unique works in the interior as well as on the exterior of the building, allowing visitors access for only thirty days. The result was a pure, immersive experience that allowed artists free reign to indulge their creativity in an environment of open-mindedness and without commodification. This beautiful catalogue records the work of such urban art luminaries as A1One, Herbert Baglione, COPE2, Ethos, Peeta, Rea One, Seth, Stinkfish, Swoon, Vexta and Vhils.

Once, the spraycan kings of New York's subways astounded the world with their exuberant graffiti images. Now a new generation of artists has hit the streets and is decorating neighbourhood walls with memorials to the tragic and untimely deaths of friends and loved ones. R.I.P. - assembling the very best of a vibrant street art wave - contains colour photographs of memorials from Harlem and the Lower East Side, the South Bronx and Brooklyn, as well as the moving stories behind them. The victims of shootings, accidents, arguments, police killings and drug-related turf wars may be gone, but thanks to these paintings they are not forgotten: for a violent and indifferent city has also spawned a rich urban art form.

The seminal artist’s recent art and poster works, and his triumphant return to his street-art roots with murals, all in work never before published. Shepard Fairey rose out of the skateboarding scene, creating his “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” sticker campaign in the late ’80s, and has since achieved a mainstream recognition that most street artists never find. Fairey’s “Hope” poster, created during Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, is arguably the most iconic American image since Uncle Sam. Fairey has become a pop-culture icon himself, though he has remained true to his street-art roots. OBEY: Covert to Overt showcases his most recent evolution from works on paper to grander art installations, cross-cultural artworks, and music/art collaborations. The book also includes his ubiquitous streetwear and chronicles his return to public artworks. His signature blend of politics, street culture, and art makes Fairey unlike any other subculture/street artist working today.
This book showcases the significant amount of art he has created the last several years: street murals, mixed-media installations, art/music events, countless silk screens, and work from his extremely successful OBEY brand.

Morley is a Los Angeles-based street artist that specializes in bold, typographic posters which he wheat pastes within the urban landscape. Blending humor, hope and his unique perspective on life, Morley's aim is to act as a friendly voice amongst the cacophony of billboarded messages and corporate slogans. This voice was given a face when he began including an image of himself in each of his pieces, looking to create a more intimate relationship between the artist and the audience than many of his anonymous contemporaries could allow. In 2011, Morley's work caught the eye of Steve Lazarides whose Outsiders imprint began selling his work, describing it thusly: "His sympathetic statements give the tirelessly aspirational residents a welcome reminder of what's important in life: love, simple pleasures, making the world a slightly better place and not hating on yourself too much." Today, he continues to paste his work in any city that doesn't enforce their vandalism laws through caning. Also he made us promise to include the fact that he can hold his breath for over an hour, and that if anyone challenged him to a breath holding contest, they would totally lose - but he was probably lying about that.

This book it has its direct origin on an international call for papers, issued by Pedro Costa and Paula Guerra, which aimed to give body to a publication on the thematic of creative milieus and cultural scenes in contemporary urban spaces. The organizers of that publication were surprised by the great quality and interest of the proposals for papers which were presented, even if many of them were not focused specifically and directly on the “creative milieus” and “urban scenes” approach they were looking for. Interestingly, many of the papers raised the issue of the relation between urban interventions (particularly street art approaches) and public space. That was so stimulating that the authors, drawing also upon previous work on that area, decided to give birth to another project, complementary to the edition of the original idea of book, which would be specifically focused on issues of urban interventions, street art and public space. For that, they joined Pedro Soares Neves, which have been working for years in the field of street art and urban interventions, is executive director of Urbancreativity international research topic on Graffiti, Street Art and Urban Creativity. The diversity of contributions put together in this book acknowledges the variety of debates and perspectives that mark contemporary discussions on the relation between art and public space, with particular reference to the case of graffiti and street art, which attracted most of the contributors that came from various disciplines and backgrounds.

Memories of Dismaland is my extensive full color photo diary of the amazing temporary pop up theme park erected by Banksy and 58 other artists set up in the seaside resort town of Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, England. Prepared in secret under the guise of constructing a movie set for a Hollywood film company filming a crime thriller called “Grey Fox”, the pop-up exhibition at the Tropicana, a disused lido, was clearly a sinister twist on Disneyland, although Banksy denied any relationship to Disney and actually banned Disney associates from the park that opened during the weekend of 21 August 2015, ran 36 days and closed permanently on 27 September 2015.
On the walls of alleys and abandoned buildings, on chain link fences and trash cans, on utility and traffic signal boxes – this is global street art, as photographed by Lou Chamberlin. The images jump off the streets and into the pages of Lou's book, as her photographs document the walls making waves in cities from London to Berlin, Sydney to Lodz, Dublin to Rio, and Tokyo to New York.
This is an important new sourcebook for street artists, revealing not just the latest, exciting art happening around the globe, but also the collaborations and communities supporting the movement.
